Frequently Asked Questions

Items added or updated for Beta 1 are marked withnew!

Q: What is all this alpha-beta talk about?

A: Alpha builds precede beta builds. Beta testing involves installing alpha or beta builds for the purpose of trying them out and providing feedback. Beta builds have known bugs and do not include the full set of features that will be in the product that ships. You should not install the beta unless you are at least moderately techie and frequently participate in beta testing. Beta releases are best installed on a second machine or even a dedicated testing system and should not be installed on machines you rely on for your daily work.

Q: I am not currently a Libronix user. Can I be a beta tester?

A: A Libronix Customer ID is necessary to complete the installation process. We are not currently providing any temporary unlocks for resources. Beta testers will have access only to the resources that they have unlocked in their license file.

Q: How do I download and install Beta 1?new!

A: Click the Download the Beta icon at the top of the page to download the .dmg file. Libronix for the Mac will install like a normal Mac application. Installation of Beta 1 does not require uninstalling the previous build. Please finish reading the FAQs before installing.

Q: How do I uninstall the Mac version?

A: Click here for instructions on how to uninstall the current version.

Q: How do I transfer my licenses?

A: During the install process, you will be asked to enter your Libronix Customer ID and confirmation code. You can find this information in Libronix by clicking Help > About Libronix DLS. You will then be asked to synchronize your licenses. Note: you cannot manually transfer your license file from your PC to your Mac since the file formats are different.

Q: I no longer run Libronix on my PC, so I don’t have access to my Libronix Customer ID and confirmation code. What do I do?

A: You may contact customer service (800-875-6467 or customerservice@logos.com) to get your Libronix Customer ID and confirmation code. Please don’t contact customer service for any other Mac-related issues.

Q: How do I get the Mac version of my book files?

A: There is no Mac version of Libronix books. Both the Windows and the Mac versions of Libronix read the same .lbxlls files. You will need to transfer them to your Mac by using your DVD and CD media, an external hard drive or USB flash drive, or some other method. We highly recommend using the resources from the 3.0e DVD.

Q: Where do I put my book files?

A: The installer will copy your book files to the proper location. If you transfer your book files over manually, you will need to put them in /Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources on the startup volume.

Q: Will any of my other Libronix files transfer over to the Mac version?

A: User-defined collections (.lbxcol files) created on the Windows version should generally work on the Mac version. Collection files should be placed in ~/Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Collections/ (~ meaning your Home directory). For now, the only other files that the Mac version will read are the Libronix book files.

Q: Can I share the same resources between the Mac version and the Windows version running in Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion?

A: Yes. The best way is to put the resources in the Mac filesystem and then share that folder with the virtual machine you are using, which will show up as a networked drive. You may be able to do it the opposite way (share from within Windows) but that would require the Windows environment to be running when you want to use the Mac version.

Q: Why are some of my book files locked on my Mac, but unlocked in Windows?

A: Make sure that you synchronize your licenses in the Windows version of Libronix first. Then synchronize your licenses in the Mac version.

Q: Whom do I contact for support?

A: There is no support for the Mac version during beta testing. Please do not call or email customer service with Mac-related support questions. Please use the Macintosh newsgroup (link works in Opera only) to discuss problems and issues. Due to the number of emails and postings in the newsgroup that we receive, we cannot promise a response to each one. We will do our best to address the major problems in the newsgroups and by updating this page.

Q: I found a bug. How should I report it?

A: Please check the list of known issues below before submitting a bug report. If your issue does not appear in the list of known issues or has not already been reported in the Macintosh newsgroup, please send an email to macfeedback@logos.com or report it in our Macintosh newsgroup (link works in Opera only).

Q: I’m new to newsgroups. How can I access your Macintosh newsgroup?

A: Both Safari and Firefox on the Mac do not know how to handle the news:// protocol, making the links to the Macintosh newsgroup on this page appear dead. The easiest solution is to use Opera, which has a built-in news reader. Another option is to use a news reader like Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, Entourage, Nemo, Unison, etc. We recommend Thunderbird. Simply (1) download and install the free application, (2) set up a new newsgroup account, (3) enter your name and email address, (4) enter news.logos.com for the name of the news server, and (5) select the group(s) you want to subscribe to.

Q: I have a feature request. Should I email it to Bob?

A: Please use only macfeedback@logos.com or our Macintosh newsgroup (link works in Opera only) to make feature requests.

Q: What are the minimum system requirements?

A: At a bare minimum you will need an 800Mhz processor with at least 256MB of RAM and a 1024×768 monitor running OS X 10.4.11 or later. These specifications may be changed in the future as we test the beta product.

Q: Does it run on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs?

A: Yes. The Mac version of Libronix is Universal Binary.

Q: Will Logos ever be available for Mac-only users, or will I have to buy the PC version and use it on the Mac?

A: Once beta testing is over and the finished product is ready to ship, you will be able to buy a Logos Bible Software base collection specifically for the Mac platform.

Q: I’m having trouble synchronizing my licenses. How can I fix this?

A: If synchronizing your licenses is causing crashes, your license file is probably corrupt. Try deleting it, and then resynchronize your licenses. The file you need to delete, License.lbxlic, is located in Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Licenses on the startup volume.

Q: How do I create and send in a log file?

A: If you are asked to send in your log file, please send it to macfeedback@logos.com. Follow these four steps: (1) First, you will need to enable logging. With Libronix closed navigate to Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Scripts on the startup volume and double click EnableLogging. (2) Next, you will need to reproduce the error. Start Libronix (it will start more slowly than normal) and perform the actions that cause the error to occur. After it has occurred, close Libronix (unless the error caused Libronix to crash and it’s already closed). (3) Next, you will need to locate your log file. Navigate to Library/Logs on your home directory and send the LibronixDLS.log file to macfeedback@logos.com with an explanation of the problem and what causes it. (4) Finally, you will need to disable logging. With Libronix closed navigate back to Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Scripts on the startup volume and double click DisableLogging.

Q: Can I add new books to the Mac version of Libronix even though it is still in beta testing?

A: The unlocking process is not currently functional in Beta 1. However, there are a few ways that you can unlock new books. (1) If you have access to the Windows version of Libronix, you can install the new resource(s) there, synchronize licenses on the Windows version, synchronize licenses on the Mac version, and add the book files by using the resource installer (Tools > Library Management > Resource Installer). (2) If you buy a downloadable product, you can simply synchronize licenses on the Mac version and download the book file(s) from the product page or from ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks. Put the resources in /Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources on the startup volume. (3) If you buy a shippable product (CD/DVD-ROM), you will have to call customer service (800-875-6467), give them the serial number, and have them activate the product for you. Then you will need to synchronize licenses on the Mac version and add the book files by using the resource installer (Tools > Library Management > Resource Installer). IMPORTANT: Keep in mind as well that since this is beta software, we are not providing support.

Q: I’m not currently a Logos user, but I can’t wait to get my hands on Logos for the Mac. Can I buy a Windows collection now to use on the beta and switch to the Mac version when it finally ships? Will it be less expensive to wait to buy the official Mac version?

A: We don’t provide support for the Mac version during beta testing and can’t guarantee that everything will work properly. But if you really can’t wait and don’t mind putting up with some bugs and missing features, it is possible to buy a Windows product like Scholar’s Library: Gold and use it with the Mac version of Libronix without owning a PC or a copy of Windows. A more stable option for now, which we recommend for most users, is to run Libronix on your Mac by using Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion.
A: There will be some cost involved in switching to the Mac version of Libronix when it finally ships, but you will pay that cost either way as it will be factored into the pricing for the Mac base collections. The bottom line is that there really is no cost savings if you wait.
